Respect and Love: 11 Ways to Happiness
“Respect is one of the greatest expressions of love”, so the saying goes. Have you ever ventured that respect can be so strong a feeling? To most of us to respect is to admire, acknowledge, give due importance, kindness, helping, wishing well, and the list could go on and on. It also means not making fun of others, not humiliating, not caring, not abusing, not humiliating, not demeaning and off course many more! Respecting others increases your self-esteem, confidence, mental peace and above all an inner happiness. Can you imagine respect can lead to a strong bondages of affection, warmness and above all ‘love’?
Let’s see some of the easy ways on how respect can create the love of humanity.
1. ‘Love Thyself’
This is a famous proverb. If you love yourself, others will love you. It is like knowing and understanding how would you like to be respected to get a feeling of love. Do the same to others if you love yourself and want to keep away from being hurt or upset on how others react after you act? Respect is usually a reflex action, but you have to bring to your culture.
2. Greetings
Star you day with a simple ‘Hello’, ‘Hi ‘, ‘Good morning’, ‘even with strangers. It doesn’t hurt you. In fact, you get an immediate sense of respect with a return wish. What a lovely start of a day!
3. Speak politely
Often times we think ourselves as the most important and the most authentic. Being polite would be to recognize others accomplishment and praise the slightest good deeds they have. Communicate with respect and care. Your friend, relative, partner, teacher, child will resonate to you expression and automatically develop a feeling of respect and love.
4. Listen first
It is always respectful to listen first. Be patient before you express your way of achieving something. Maybe you will have better insight on convincing your boss or colleague to convince your idea. You can respectfully disagree and retain your stand.
5. Be gracious
Build yourself to use kind words, not to embarrass others or joke decently, spreading a feeling of happiness. If you are ignored knowingly or unknowingly, take it easy. Find out the reason and tackle diplomatically. Broaden your mind and recognize and praise on the good behavior of the other person. Respect and love will grace you.
6. Don’t presume
Many of us sometimes hear things of a person and develop a presumptive attitude. Preconceived mindset is a barrier to creating a good relationship. It is off course difficult to drive your mind away from such a setting. Judge yourself how you would feel if you would be in the same situation of being misunderstood without knowing the reality. Try to be friends, pick up the good points and do not judge before you know the person. Balance yourself when you interact. It is you who can change another person to be amicable with respect and love.
7. Be hardworking
Everyone likes hard-working people with an ambition to grow. In fact, we all appreciate a person who does the job given with sincerity and completeness. If you devote yourself to hard work you will automatically build confidence and goodwill of others. Respect to your dutiful behavior will follow with love.
8. Extend help
It doesn’t hurt to help an elderly, a disabled or a child. It might take a few minutes of your time to help you teacher carry her/his books. But the respect you will receive by the expression of her/his eyes is worth a million. Offering help is one of the best ways of receiving respect and love.
9. Respect and love begin at home
We always say ‘what do you learn from your family?’ It would be disgraceful if your expressions show bad grooming and wrong upbringing. You wouldn’t like your parents, your siblings and dear and near ones to be pointed at because of your misbehavior. Develop yourself, learn from others and cultivate respectful gestures. Practice it with your parents, siblings and peers. Respect and love expressions exist for all age groups and all kinds of relationship.
10. Show gratitude
Never forget to thank others even for the slightest assistance. Showing gratitude for receiving help from others is a perfect way of being respectful. Your friend, colleague or boss deserves ‘thank you’ for the time and good words that pulled you up from a difficult situation. Next time you will a respectful person in their circle.
11. Good Wishes
Greeting your dear ones on a birthday or any other occasion you may remember is a lovely way of receiving respect and love. Call your parents up on their marriage day. See how you feel. It is unexplainable how time, distance and conflicts can be narrowed down to a state of respect and love.
