Origin of the Daffodil

The scientific name of the daffodil is Narcissus pseudonarcissus (daffodil), belonging to the family Amaryllidaceae and superorder Lilianae. The daffodil is known to have originated in Europe. Daffodil is the National flower of Wales and usually worn on the first of March, the St David’s day.  It is bulbous, perennial having dark green leaves coming from the soil.  The tip of a flattened stalk holds the bright yellow flowers shaped like a trumpet. There are 3 sepals and 3 petals lighter in color. Daffodils the birth flower of March grows in the wild woods, open meadows, grassy slopes, forests, parks, and gardens.  There are more than 36 species of Narcissus and a number of them developed through hybridization. The hybrids species take up various hues of yellow, white and orange.
